Do you want to start a music business? This workshop will help inspire you, help you think of possibilities, and set you on the right path. Whether the music business is a band, a venue, a festival, a blog, a service, a website, a record label -- or any other music business - these all have common threads of needed skills and knowledge. Today, music businesses are often interwoven: A band may act as its own record label. A recording studio producer may act as a composer. A blog may act as A&R. A festival may produce and sell music. A venue may also be a recording studio, and vice versa. A website may provide a major music service. Doing the legal and business basics correctly from the get-go can enable you to branch off later. An understanding of the underpinnings of music law and business as they are today is so important.
Workshop presented by Sue Basko, a Lawyer for Music and Film in California and Illinois. Sue works with bands, recording studios, record labels, publishers, venues, festivals, websites, filmmakers, designers, and other creative businesses. She represents some of the best singer-songwriters today. Sue writes a widely-read blog that provides excellent free music law information to its readers. Sue is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Film and Video; graduate school in digital production and media law at the Southern Illinois University School of Mass Communication Media Arts; she has a Juris Doctorate magna cum laude from Southern Illinois University School of Law. She is licensed as an attorney in California and Illinois. Sue loves to hear new music. She is known to dance anywhere to any music.
